Staff Orientation Programme

The academic year 2025–2026 at Sophia began with a Staff Orientation Programme held on June 2 at Duchesne Hall. The programme commenced with a meaningful prayer service led by the Sisters, seeking God's blessings for a fruitful year ahead.

The newly appointed staff members were warmly introduced and welcomed into the Sophia Family, fostering a spirit of unity and collaboration.

The highlight of the programme was an engaging session by Lion Dr. S. Anthony on the theme "The Fixed Mind-setVsThe Growth Mind-set: The Two Technologies." His insightful talk emphasized the importance of developing a growth mind-set, encouraging educators to remain adaptable, open to change, and committed to continuous learning.

The programme concluded with a sumptuous lunch hosted by the Management for all staff members.

Blessing of the School Campus

To mark the beginning of the academic year 2025–2026, the Blessing of the School Campus was held on June 3. The day began with a brief morning gathering in the school building led by Sr. Mary Madhuja.

The programme commenced with a short prayer seeking God's blessings for the staff, students, and the entire school community. Sr. Madhuja warmly welcomed the newly joined faculty members and introduced them to the staff.

She also shared a brief orientation on the rules and regulations for the new academic year, highlighting the importance of discipline, commitment, and collective responsibility in maintaining the values of the institution.

The event concluded with the Priests blessing the entire school campus, offering prayers for a peaceful, productive, and inspiring academic year ahead. The occasion marked a meaningful and spiritually uplifting start to the new school year.

Opening Day Assembly

The academic year 2025–2026 began on a thoughtful and inspiring note with the Open Day Prayer Assembly held on June 4th. Organized by the Staff Council, the assembly centered around the theme "Campus Canvas – Colouring Our Year with Kindness."

The programme featured heartfelt prayers, reflective messages, and creative presentations that encouraged students to embrace kindness, stay true to themselves, and approach the year with confidence and compassion.

Arrival of Newcomers

On June 5th, Sophia Opportunity School extended a warm and heartfelt welcome to its newcomers. With friendly smiles and caring gestures, the school created a safe and positive environment, helping the children feel comfortable and confident as they began their new school journey. This thoughtful welcome eased first-day anxieties and set the stage for a joyful year of learning and growth.

Visit by Psychology Students

On June 17th, the Grade 11 Psychology students from Sophia High School visited Sophia Opportunity School as part of their academic learning experience.

The students were warmly welcomed by Sr. Mary Madhuja, who gave a brief introduction about the Sophia Opportunity School. Mrs. Salome Mathew then provided an overview of the school’s work, followed by a guided tour of the Special School Section.

As an extension of their visit, the students returned for an internship with the children from October 28th to December 18th, gaining valuable hands-on experience.

The visit proved to be both enriching and inspiring, offering the students a deeper understanding of special education and the importance of compassionate care.

Parent - Teacher Interaction

Sophia Opportunity School conducted a Parent–Teacher Interaction session on June 21, providing a valuable platform for open communication between parents and teachers.

During the session, parents met their child’s respective class teachers, who shared insights into each student’s academic progress, behaviour, and overall development. It also offered parents the opportunity to discuss their child’s learning needs and growth.

The interaction fostered a spirit of collaboration between families and educators, strengthening their partnership in supporting the holistic development of every student.

Julie Day

On 11 July, the children of the Barat Building organized a small yet meaningful programme to celebrate Julie Day. The celebration was marked by joy, enthusiasm, and a spirit of togetherness.

The children presented a few simple yet heartfelt performances, expressing their love and appreciation towards St. Julie, the Spiritual Mother of the Sisters of Notre Dame. The celebration created a cheerful atmosphere and encouraged the students to participate with confidence and happiness. The programme concluded on a joyful note, leaving everyone with warm memories of the special day.

Colouring and Handwriting Competition

A Colouring and Handwriting Competition, organized by the Student Development Society, was held on 16 July for the junior and senior students of Sophia Opportunity School.

Selected students participated enthusiastically in the competition, which was conducted in their respective classrooms. The activity provided an opportunity for students to display their creativity, improve their handwriting skills, and express themselves through colours. The students greatly enjoyed the experience and participated with excitement and confidence.

Parents Seminar

Sophia Opportunity School conducted a Parent–Teacher Interaction session on June 21, providing a valuable platform for open communication between parents and teachers.

The interaction fostered a spirit of collaboration between families and educators, strengthening their partnership in supporting the holistic development of every student.

Sports Rehearsal

The Sports Rehearsal, held on 23rd July, was a lively display of enthusiasm, unity, and athletic spirit, with each event adding its own unique charm to the occasion.

The Chief Guest for the day was Mr. Mahesh Kumar K. G., retired Physical Education Teacher of Sophia High School, Bengaluru, and the Guest of Honour was Sr. Mary Priscilla, Secretary of Sophia High School.

The programme featured energetic and well-coordinated performances by the senior students, setting the tone for a grand and memorable Sports Day.

Annual Senior Sports Meet

The Annual Sports Meet of Sophia High School, held on 26th July, was marked by tremendous enthusiasm and vibrant school spirit. Students from Sophia Opportunity School actively participated in various events and thoroughly enjoyed the day.

The event was graced by Shri Jagadeesha G., IAS, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, Bangalore Urban District, as the Chief Guest, and Sr. Mary Chetana, SND, Provincial Superior of the Sisters of Notre Dame, Our Lady of the Visitation Province, Bangalore, as the Guest of Honour.

The various sporting events showcased the students’ energy, determination, and teamwork. The day concluded on a joyful note, celebrating participation, sportsmanship, and a strong sense of unity among all the students.

Independence Day

Sophia High School celebrated Independence Day on 15 August with great pride and patriotic fervour. The Cuvilly Section children led a meaningful prayer service based on the theme “Nation First, Always First.”

The Chief Guest, Mr. Vinod Jacob, Civic Evangelist, Urban Activist, and Environmentalist, inspired the gathering by recalling the vision and sacrifices of great leaders. He reminded students that the future of the nation rests in their hands and encouraged them to contribute responsibly to India’s growth.

Students of Sophia Opportunity School also joined the celebration, making the occasion truly inclusive and joyful. The programme concluded with a Blood Donation Camp, reflecting the spirit of service and commitment to the nation.

Retirement of Rita

Sophia Opportunity School bid a heartfelt farewell to Mrs. Rita Fabi, our devoted maintenance staff member, who retired on 31 August 2025 after 26 years of dedicated service.

To honour her long and faithful commitment, the staff organized a prayer service. The students offered a special prayer and presented a short entertainment programme as a token of their love and appreciation.

The Principal, Sr. Madhuja, spoke warmly about Mrs. Rita’s valuable contribution and felicitated her on this memorable occasion. The entire school community expressed deep gratitude for her dedication, cheerful presence, and the many years of service she rendered to the institution.

Interschool Akshya Samithi

Twenty-eight students from Sophia Opportunity School enthusiastically participated in the interschool competition organized by the Akshaya Samithi Foundation at Sanjaynagar for children with special needs. The event provided a vibrant platform for students to showcase their talents across a variety of categories, including music, dance, art and craft, and fancy dress.

Our students displayed remarkable creativity, confidence, and enthusiasm in every event. Their performances deeply moved the audience and reflected the spirit of joy and determination that defines Sophia. Beyond the competitions, the students benefited from meaningful interactions with peers from other schools, gaining valuable exposure and encouragement.

The event beautifully promoted inclusivity, self-expression, and teamwork. The students were accompanied by three staff members and one member of the maintenance staff, whose support ensured a smooth and enriching experience for all.

We are proud to share that our students secured **Second Place in the Music Competition**, bringing great joy and pride to the entire Sophia community. This achievement stands as a testament to their talent and perseverance, inspiring everyone to continue striving for excellence.

Staff Picnic

In celebration of Teachers’ Day, the Management organised a one-day picnic for the staff of Sophia Opportunity School at R R Resort, near Nelamangala, Bengaluru. The outing provided a welcome break from routine, as the staff enjoyed a variety of fun-filled activities and adventurous games, along with a sumptuous spread of food.

The day was marked by laughter and shared moments of joy. It not only strengthened the bonds among the staff but also left everyone feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and grateful for the opportunity to spend quality time together.

Teacher's Day

The Teachers’ Day celebration was beautifully led by the students, beginning with a meaningful prayer service that invoked blessings upon their teachers. This was followed by a lively and well-prepared cultural programme, where students showcased their talents with great enthusiasm. The performances reflected their deep appreciation and respect for their mentors.

Following the programme, the Management hosted a fellowship meal and presented each teacher with a gift as a token of gratitude for their dedicated service.

Parent Teacher Meeting

The Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) was held on 20th September 2025, providing parents with the opportunity to interact with teachers and therapists, including the speech therapist, physiotherapist, and psychologist. The meeting served as a meaningful platform to review students’ progress, exchange valuable feedback, and strengthen collaboration between parents and the school.

Worker's Day

Workers’ Day was celebrated at Sophia High School on 30th October to honour the dedication and hard work of the school’s support staff. A special programme was organised, during which students and staff expressed their gratitude through songs, performances, and heartfelt messages.

Tokens of appreciation were presented to the helpers in recognition of their invaluable contribution to the smooth functioning of the school. It was a meaningful occasion that beautifully reflected the spirit of respect and gratitude within the school community.

Sofiesta VI

On 8th and 9th November, the much-anticipated carnival Sofiesta VI brought the school alive with two vibrant days of games, food, and fellowship.

On Day 1, the school was honoured to welcome Roshmitha Harimurthy, an alumna and Miss Universe India 2016, whose presence inspired a sense of pride and ambition among the students. On Day 2, the Chief Guest was Vijayalakshmi Puli, a renowned classical dancer, artist, and singer, whose grace and artistry added depth and elegance to the celebrations.

Sofiesta VI was more than just a carnival—it was a celebration of community, heritage, and aspiration, blending joy with inspiration in a way that will be fondly remembered.

Children's Day

The children of Sophia Opportunity School thoroughly enjoyed a delightful Children’s Day programme presented by the teachers. The performances were lively, engaging, and filled with joy, making the celebration truly memorable for the young ones.

The day became even more special as the children received thoughtful gifts and were treated to delicious ice creams, adding to their excitement and happiness. It was a heart-warming occasion that left every child smiling and feeling truly cherished.

Quizabled

Selected students enthusiastically participated in the preliminary round of the Quizable competition. They performed commendably, answering most questions with confidence and accuracy. The online format of the competition provided an engaging platform for them to showcase their knowledge and quick-thinking abilities. Overall, it was a positive and enriching experience for all participants.

We are especially proud to share that students Sahana Kriya S. R. and Muhammed Ali Azad represented the school at the Quizabled 2025–26: South Zone 1 – Karnataka Finals and emerged as First Prize winners.

Competing against teams from institutions across Karnataka, they demonstrated exceptional knowledge, presence of mind, and excellent teamwork. Their outstanding achievement is a matter of great pride for the school, and they were warmly congratulated on their well-deserved success.

Principal's Day Celebration

The students, teaching staff, and maintenance personnel of Sophia Opportunity School assembled for a prayer service on 28th November in honour of our respected Sister. The gathering was a moment of reflection and gratitude, bringing the school community together in appreciation.

On 29th November 2025, Sophia High School celebrated Principal’s Day with great enthusiasm. The day commenced with a short prayer service dedicated to the three Principals, setting a meaningful tone for the celebrations. This was followed by a well-organised entertainment programme arranged by the teaching staff, featuring songs, dances, and skits that added joy and vibrancy to the occasion.

The event provided a wonderful opportunity for the entire school community to express their gratitude, respect, and appreciation for the dedicated leadership and guidance of the Principals.

International Disability Day

Sophia Opportunity School observed International Disability Day with a meaningful and prayerful special assembly. The service was conducted in an atmosphere of reverence and gratitude, highlighting the dignity, abilities, and unique strengths of persons with disabilities.

Sr. Priscilla, Superior of the Sisters of Notre Dame, Visitation Province, and Secretary of the School, graciously presided over the assembly. Her presence added significance to the occasion and inspired the gathering.

The observance reaffirmed the school’s commitment to inclusion, compassion, and respect, while reinforcing the values of acceptance and empathy among students and staff. It was a thoughtful and enriching experience for the entire school community.

Silver Jubilee

The school celebrated the Silver Jubilee and retirement of the teachers of Sophia High School, marking a memorable and heartfelt occasion. Among the honourees were four teachers from Sophia Opportunity School who proudly celebrated their Silver Jubilee.

The auditorium and the LEANS Building were beautifully decorated, creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere for the celebration. The presence of family members of the jubilarians added warmth and joy to the event, making it even more special.

Students from every building presented vibrant dance performances in honour of the teachers, expressing their appreciation and admiration. The celebration concluded with a fellowship lunch, where staff and guests came together to share in the joy of the occasion.

It was a meaningful tribute to the dedication, commitment, and years of selfless service of the teachers.

Christmas Celebration

Sophia Opportunity School joined Sophia High School in celebrating Christmas in a spirit of joy, reverence, and togetherness. The celebration was graced by the presence of Sr. Mary Sujita, former Superior General of the Sisters of Notre Dame, whose presence added dignity and significance to the occasion.

A major highlight of the programme was a moving Nativity drama depicting the Birth of Christ, performed by the special children of Sophia Opportunity School. The performance was truly beautiful and angelic, capturing the essence of Christmas through innocence, devotion, and expressive storytelling. It stood out as a deeply touching presentation and was warmly appreciated by the audience.

The celebration reflected the true message of Christmas—love, hope, and goodwill. The day concluded with a staff lunch get-together, where staff members gathered in a warm and festive atmosphere, strengthening bonds and celebrating the joy of the season.

Kalaangana

Students from Sophia Opportunity School participated in the Art and Tableau Competition conducted by Kalaangana, showcasing their creativity and talent with great enthusiasm. The Tableau team secured the Second Prize, bringing pride to the school through their impressive performance.

Several students also distinguished themselves through their commendable efforts, adding to the school’s achievements. Making the occasion even more special, our Special Educator, Mrs.Lizy Kuriakose, was honoured with the Special Educator Excellence Award, while Aiza Falak received the Young Achievers Award.

These accomplishments made the event a proud and memorable milestone for the school, reflecting the dedication, talent, and spirit of both students and staff.

School Picnic

On 13th February 2026, the students of Sophia Opportunity School went on a picnic to Nelada Siri Agro Resort. The day was filled with joy and excitement as the students enjoyed a refreshing break from their routine.

They actively participated in a variety of indoor and outdoor games and spent quality time bonding with their friends. A delightful magic show kept everyone entertained, while the rain dance brought great enthusiasm and added to the fun-filled atmosphere.

The students also relished the delicious food served at the resort, and the pleasant surroundings made the outing even more enjoyable.

It was a happy and memorable day for the students, teachers, and maintenance staff alike, leaving everyone with cherished memories.

JPIC Seniors

As part of the Justice, Peace, and Integration of Creation (JPIC) initiatives, the senior students actively participated in a campus cleaning drive within the school premises. With enthusiasm and a strong sense of responsibility, the students worked together to clean the playground, garden, and the surrounding areas of the school. Their collective effort reflected their commitment to keeping their environment neat, healthy, and welcoming for everyone.

To further promote care for the environment, the students also engaged in a creative activity of making paper bags and paper envelopes using old newspapers. This activity aimed to spread awareness about reducing the use of plastic and encouraging eco-friendly alternatives. Through their creativity and teamwork, the students learned that even small actions can contribute to protecting our planet.

These simple yet meaningful activities helped the students understand the importance of caring for creation. By working together, they became active participants in building a cleaner environment and promoting responsible habits within the school community, living out the true spirit of JPIC.

JPIC Juniors

As part of the Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) activities, the junior students enthusiastically participated in simple gardening work in the school garden. With great interest and joy, the young minds helped in removing weeds around the plants and carefully watered them. The activity was conducted in a simple and practical manner according to their level of understanding, and the children actively took part in caring for the garden. Through this hands-on experience, they learned the importance of respecting and protecting nature.

In addition to caring for creation, the students were also introduced to the value of peace through a creative colouring activity. According to their level, the children were given a picture of a dove, the universal symbol of peace, and were guided to colour it using different colours. This activity helped the children understand the message of peace in a simple, joyful, and creative way suitable for their young age.

Through these meaningful activities, the young students were gently encouraged to grow in love for nature and to become little messengers of peace in their surroundings.
