Staff Orientation

The Sisters of Notre Dame greeted the staff with a warm welcome and held a short prayer service thanking God for His marvelous deeds and seeking His blessings for a fruitful academic year.

The prayer service was followed by the seminar on the topic "Classroom Management" by Mrs. Anjali Singh a well-known researcher in the field of education.

Staff Retreat

A retreat was held for the teachers by Rev. Fr. Joseph Royan, which helped us to reflect about our own wounds and how to use it for the welfare or the service of others, as well as how to address them.

Retreat for the Catholic Parents

A retreat was held for the catholic parents and students of the entire school. The retreat was conducted by Rev. Fr. Augustine Vallooran. It was indeed a day for renewal and re- creating the bond with the Lord.

Sophia Senior Sports Day:

The campus of Sophia was vibrant and colorful all set for the sports day. The chief guest for the day was Mr. Sachin Belavadi, an Arjuna awardee and present coach for the Basketball team, Karnataka. The guest of honor was Rev. Sr. Kripa, the local superior. The Special Children marched briskly for the spectacular opening ceremony and performed 'The Vibrant Hues', a display with colorful hula-hoops.





Independence Day Celebration

The Independence Day Assembly theme was "Glorious Past and a Promising Future." The children depicted the glorious past of Indian history and the struggles she underwent to get her freedom from the clutches of the British. It also portrayed the promising future of our mother nation in various fields.

Parents Meeting

The annual parents meeting began with a small prayer service by the Principal. The guest speaker for the seminar was Mrs. Annapoorni who dealt with the topic on "Emotional Challenges and Guidance in a Home Setting in Regard to education and Functional Skills".

The Second session was handled by the LIC Personnel who explain briefly about the benefits of the policy for the children with special needs. The entire session ended with a speech by Sr. Prabha, the Principal.

Inter Special School Relay at Bethany

It was a victorious day for our children as they participated in the inter school relay conducted by Bethany Special School. Our children won the first prize in both the events by breaking their past records, indeed a proud moment for all.

Mumbai Tour

A fun and fulfilled five day trip to Mumbai was organized by the school with the help of Supreme travels. We visited some of the prominent place in Mumbai like India Gate, Museum, Juhu beach, Haji Ali, Marine drive, Aquarium etc. The children had a wonderful experience of Cruise drive in the Arabian Sea as we visited the Elephanta Caves.

Quizabled

Six of our students participated and explored their abilities in Quizabled a quiz competition organized by Seva in Action. Our final team bagged the third prize.

A Fond Farewell and a Warm Welcome

The day had a mixed feeling, feelings of gratitude for the committed service of Rev. Sr. Prabha as the Principal of Sophia Opportunity School as well as feelings of sadness of her leaving.

The traditional handing over of the Lamp took place solemnly. Sr. Prabha handed over the Lamp to Sr. Madhuja which is the sign of transferring the responsibility to the new Principal.

World Disability Day

In honor of the World Disability Day, 70 of our Special Students, 8 Staff Members and Our Principal Sr. Madhuja attended a meeting organized by the 'Child and Women Welfare Department', Government of Karnataka. The meeting was presided over by honorable Chief Minister and it was an enriching experience.

F.A.M.E India- Inter Special School Sports Meet

An Inter Special School Sports meet was organized by F.A.M.E India at Kittur Rani Chennamma Stadium, Jayanagar. Our Special Students participated and bagged the 'runner up' cup for the overall championship.

Visit by the Education Coordinator

It was a blissful day for all of us at Sophia Opportunity School as Sr. Manisha, the Education Coordinator of Visitation Province visited us. A special prayer assembly was conducted and Sr. Manisha addressed the gathering and observed a few classrooms and gave her valuable remarks to the teachers.

Staff Seminar by the Education Coordinator

The staff of Sophia family attended a one day seminar by Sr.Manisha, the Education Coordinator of Visitation Province on the topic 'Be a People Person'. The topic was illustrated with informative videos. It was a pleasant and a worthwhile experience for the staff.

Retirement

The Sophia family gathered in the auditorium with grateful hearts to acknowledge and thank the dedicated service of the four retiring teachers Ms. Sukanya, Mrs. Shashikala, Mrs. Patricia and Mrs. Martins.

A meaningful and heart touching prayer song was sung by the Special Children. They also danced for a rhythmic Kannada number and a semi-classical Hindi number.

Visit to the Vidhana Soudha

15 of our Special Students accompanied by 3 staff representatives and our Principal Sr. Madhuja visited the Vidhana Soudha. We were seated in the balcony of the hall and watched the session proceedings. We are grateful to our dear Sr. Madhuja for giving us this lifetime experience.

Seminar by Behavior Momentum India Foundation

The Behavior Momentum India Foundation had organized their 2nd Intenational Autism Conference, building pathways for Autism services through interdisciplinary collaboration for two days in Taj, M.G. Road, Bengaluru. Two of our staff representatives attended the conference. The conference witnesses' 300 participants including Doctors, Professionals and Parents and it gave a true insight on Autism from "Diagnosis to Treatment".
