Staff Orientation Programme - Day 1

“Every new academic year holds new challenges, new avenues to explore and new opportunities to learn."

May 29th marked the first day of the Staff Orientation Programme for the new academic year 2023-2024 at Sophia. The programme took place at the Duchesne Hall and involved the entire staff of Sophia.

The event commenced with a Prayer Service led by the Sisters, followed by the introduction of the new staff members. Dr. Gururaj Karajagi, the spokesperson, delivered sessions on the topic “Education Unplugged.”.

His inspiring sessions left the staff motivated and ready to embark on the new academic year with a fresh mindset and a futuristic vision for their interactions with the students under their care.

In the afternoon, a small meeting was conducted by Sr. Madhuja, our Principal in Leans building. Sister warmly welcomed the new staff and initiated the meeting with a short prayer. She provided an overview of the rules and regulations that are to be followed throughout the new academic year 2023-2024.

Day 2 of Staff Orientation Programme

The Staff Council meeting was held with both the old and new members. The orientation program commenced with the music department leading us in singing hymns, praising God.

Rev. Msgr. S. Jayanathan was the Speaker for the day. Father enlightened us about Divine rest, the dimension of human life, and the integration of mission. It was indeed an engaging and supportive session for all the staff. The programme culminated in expressing gratitude to Father.

Annual Road Race

"Green Race for a Blue Planet" was organized by the Sophia Sports department at Sophia High School on July 8th, 2023. It was not only a race but also a platform to support orphanages and old age homes. The event involved both students and members of the Sophia family, fostering a strong sense of community involvement and bonding.

Mr. Cyril Pereira, the PTA president, waved the flag to commence the race, and distributing prizes to the winners added to the excitement and motivation for all participants.

A Tribute to Sr. Usha

The passing away of our dear Sr. Usha, a beloved and caring figure who blessed every child who came her way, has left a lasting impact on Sophia High School. A wake service held in her honor at the Notre Dame Convent Chapel was a touching and meaningful tribute to her life and dedication.

The staff, students, parents, and family members came together to pay their final respects. May her memories continue to bring comfort and strength to all who knew and loved her. Rest in peace, dear Sr. Usha.

Senior Annual Sports Meet

The Senior Sports Day was a remarkable event filled with energy, enthusiasm, and friendly competition. The aim of the day was to encourage participation in various sports activities and foster a sense of camaraderie among the senior students. The entire campus was adorned with decorations to enhance the celebration.

The Chief Guest for the day was Ms. Bharathi B.L., an International Athlete, and the Guest of Honour was our beloved Sr. Mary Divya SND, Treasurer of Sophia High School. The event kicked off with an energizing opening ceremony where the school band set the tone by playing uplifting music as the athletes proudly marched onto the field, displaying impeccable discipline and team spirit.

Our Special Children received high praise for their energetic drill display with colourful Kolatam sticks, which was indeed a visual delight. Ms. Bharathi delivered a motivational speech at the end of all the events, followed by a vote of thanks by the Sports Captain. The day concluded on an exciting note, celebrating the achievements of the students and leaving everyone feeling inspired and accomplished. This positive atmosphere will undoubtedly resonate within the school campus for years to come.

Sophia Annual Junior Sports Meet

Junior Sports Day took place on October 19th and 20th, 2023, as the most anticipated event. Both days were marked by the active participation of our children, starting with the opening ceremony and extending to the closing. The theme, "Rise and Shine," illuminated our displays, with even the nursery children presenting a novelty item.

On the 19th, the sports meet commenced with the arrival of the chief guest, Ms. Veena Burde, a former teacher at Sophia's. Pre-primary parents gathered in the grand ambience of the sports complex, where the Junior Brass Band, along with a few of our Special Students, created a wonderful atmosphere. The first day of the sports meet was a grand success.

Continuing in similar order on the 20th, with slight modifications, the primary parents formed the audience. Ms. Nirupa Shankar graced the occasion as the chief guest for the day, contributing to the overall success of Junior Sports Day.

Principal's Day

Principals' Day at Sophia featured a vibrant celebration under the theme "The Unfailing Compass Navigating Us through the Garden of Life." The day was filled with colourful events at the auditorium, where students and staff organized a wonderful programme. Each section showcased the talents of their students, making the day delightful. The three principals addressed the audience in their speeches. A felicitation program followed, culminating in a sumptuous lunch. The day concluded on a positive note, marking a successful celebration.

Golden Memories: Sophia Family's Picnic and Extravaganza

On September 2nd, 2023, Sophia Family staff enjoyed a delightful picnic at Golden Palms Hotel. The sunny day it provided the perfect backdrop for bonding and relaxation. The picnic featured a sumptuous buffet with diverse cuisines, satisfying everyone's tastes from appetizers to desserts. This event emphasized the importance of work-life balance and strengthened the bonds among the staff. It was a memorable day. Thanks to the management's thoughtful venue choice and meticulous planning.

Teacher's Day Extravaganza: Uniting Talents at Sophia High School

Sophia High School celebrated Teacher's Day on September 5, 2023, with a collaborative and remarkable program in the auditorium. Diverse student talents were showcased, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with appreciation for the teachers. The day included captivating performances, and a delicious lunch, and left a lasting impression of gratitude and camaraderie among everyone involved.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities

INSPIRE! IMPACT! INCLUDE!

This year, on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Sophia Opportunity School organized a poignant prayer service under the theme, "Inspire, Impact, Include."

Our dear Principal, Sr. Madhuja, and the staff were elated to orchestrate a prayer service dedicated to our cherished children. Attended by the Sophia School Management, the Sisters of Notre Dame, and honored guest Mr. ZakiKhaleeli, it was a day where we expressed gratitude for the unique abilities bestowed upon each child in our care. We celebrated the talents of every child, acknowledging these gifts as blessings from God.

The event culminated with a heartfelt tribute—an award (rolling trophy), recognizing Mrs. Salome Mathew as the Most Impactful Special Educator of the Year. To add a touch of delight, the children were treated to tasty snacks, thoroughly relishing the special treats.

National Painting Compitetion

"Artistic Triumph: Differently-Abled Students Shine in National Painting Competition"

In the words of Pablo Picasso, "In every child is an artist, and in every artist, there's a child." This sentiment resonated deeply as the Karnataka State Council for Child Welfare recently organized a National Painting Competition exclusively for differently-abled children aged 5 to 18.

Our school eagerly embraced this opportunity for our students to showcase their artistic prowess and celebrate their unique talents. With great pride, we entered five remarkable students into the competition, each demonstrating exceptional creativity and dedication.

Against a backdrop of inclusivity and encouragement, our students enthusiastically participated, infusing their artworks with personal stories, emotions, and perspectives. Their paintings served as vibrant expressions of their inner worlds, transcending barriers and highlighting the beauty of diversity.

The event culminated in a heartwarming display of talent and resilience, with our students receiving participation certificates as tokens of recognition for their remarkable achievements. Beyond the accolades, this competition reinforced the importance of fostering a supportive environment where every child feels empowered to explore their creativity and express themselves freely.

As we reflect on this inspiring journey, we are reminded of the profound impact of nurturing artistic expression in all children, regardless of their abilities. Through initiatives like the National Painting Competition, we reaffirm our commitment to creating a more inclusive and compassionate society where every individual's talents are celebrated and cherished.

Republic Day Programme

Sophia Opportunity School organized a special Republic Day program titled "Embrace Duties with Profound Responsibility" at the Sophia Auditorium. Dr.Bindiya Shajith, Founder and Director of All-inclusive Foundation, attended as the chief guest. The event began with a prayer service, followed by special children showcasing their talents and an insightful session by Dr.Shajith. Sr. Alpana expressed gratitude to all participants, concluding with the recitation of the National Pledge and Anthem, promoting unity and patriotism.

Picnic

Heartwarming Journey: On March 16th, 2024, we embarked on a journey to Lago Palm Resort, nestled an hour away from the school. The excursion wasn't just a getaway; it was a day filled with laughter and unforgettable experiences and memories.

As the sun peeked over the horizon, students, teachers, and support staff alike eagerly enjoyed a sumptuous breakfast spread, fueling themselves for the adventures ahead. With bellies full and spirits high, the students dashed off to engage in outdoor games, their enthusiasm spreading joy to all. But the highlight of the day? A joyous rain dance, where inhibitions melted away under the playful downpour, and laughter echoed across the resort. Drenched but very happy and excited, the students returned to feast on a hearty lunch, their smiles reflecting the pure bliss of the moment. Yet, the fun didn't end there. Indoor games and recreational activities awaited, fostering teamwork, creativity, and sheer delight. Teachers wholeheartedly joined in, their dedication amplifying the sense of unity and inclusion that permeated the day.

As the evening approached, they had snacks and were filled with gratitude. At 3:30 p.m., reluctantly bidding adieu to the surroundings, Sophia's students departed, their souls brimming with happiness and contentment. Returning to the school by 5:30 p.m., a collective sense of fulfillment enveloped the group, a testament to the power of community and the transformative impact of shared experiences. Gratitude overflowed towards the principal and all those involved in orchestrating this unforgettable day of joy and togetherness.

In the end, beyond the laughter and the games, Sophia Opportunity School's picnic was a reminder of the beauty found in embracing diversity, fostering inclusion, and celebrating the boundless potential of every individual, regardless of ability.

Kalangana

The Kalangana, organized by the IRC (Information Research Center), was successful, highlighting talents from Sophia Opportunity School. Students competed in Dance, Art, Music, and Yoga, with Mrs. Surekha Johnas receiving an award for extraordinary teaching and Mr. Arumai Selvam recognized as an exceptional caregiver. Former student Kirti Karir was celebrated as an extraordinarily outgoing student, emphasizing holistic development.

Silver Jubilee/Retirement

The Jubilee celebration at our school commenced with a heartfelt prayer service dedicated to the Jubilarians and Retiring Staff Members. Names are as follows: Ms. Nathalia, Ms. Annette, Ms. Venetia, Ms. Archna, Ms. Malati, and Mr. George.

Following this meaningful service, students from each building showcased a delightful entertainment program. Witnessing each Jubilarian and retiree receiving tokens of appreciation from the school management was a deeply emotional moment, accompanied by heartfelt reflections on their experiences within the Sophia community.

Field Trips

In an effort to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical understanding, students and their teachers from Sophia Opportunity School embarked on an educational field trip to Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru. This excursion offered a unique opportunity for students to delve into the world of aviation and gain insights beyond the confines of the classroom. Amidst the hustle and bustle of academic routines, students, teachers, and maintenance staff embarked on a delightful journey of discovery to Indira Gandhi Musical Fountain Park. Nestled amidst lush greenery, this urban oasis provided the perfect setting for a day of fun, learning, and camaraderie.

Ourfield trip to Mantri Mall offered our students unique learning opportunities. During our visit, the special children delighted in window shopping and marveled at the festive Christmas decorations adorning the mall. Interacting with people in such a setting boosted their confidence and honed their interpersonal skills, which was a delightful sight for us to witness.

The trip to the Disabled-Friendly Park was very enriching. The park provided an array of engaging activities, such as slides, climbing ropes, and swings, allowing each child to select their preferred play equipment.This experience not only encouraged sharing among friends but also instilled valuable lessons on public etiquette and communication skills.
